Preparing Li?garnet electrodes with engineered structures by phase inversion and high shear compaction processes

Solid-state lithium batteries are promising for safety and energy density compared with traditional lithium-ion batteries. However, the large interfacial resistance between electrode electrolyte is a bottleneck to achieving high-performance solid-state Engineered structures porous scaffold of solid material lower provide mechanical support thin layer. In this work, two ceramic processing techniques used fabricate porous/dense bilayer architectures based on Li6.25Al0.25La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) Li-garnet material. Finger-like vertically aligned pores created by phase inversion (PI) process. A water bath presaturated Li salt prevents loss during PI solvent exchange step. Pore size porosity can be optimized adjusting temperature. The high shear compaction process was prepare LLZO tapes 40, 60, 80 vol% poreformer. after sintering 39.5%, 58.4%, 75.4%, respectively. Microtomography exhibits porosity, pore shape, distribution tapes. typical cathode LiNi0.33Mn0.33Co0.33O2 (NMC) filled into via vacuum infiltration, dense layer formed within garnet scaffold.
